A few days ago, I was trying to explain to one of my best friends (a woman) how the male mind works, or at least how mine works. You see, there are in each of us not one but two men, divergent in immediate purpose and yet united overall. One man is the animal, the jungle lynx, always sniffing at the air, bloodying his enemies and luring you to bed. It is this man that is drawn to you by your tight jeans and that daring blouse. It is this man, this pulsing animal that knows well the animal inside you. And if ever allowed off his chain he will pursue it to the ends of the earth.

The second man is the thinker, the worker, the lover, the planner. This is the man who wants first a woman who is his equal and his complement. This is the man who admires, respects, and loves you for who you are and what you do. He is proud to have you on his arm, and at his side. He may not ever admit it, but he melts when you're in the room. He hopes for everything you do. He'd stand in front of a truck for you, and never think twice about it.

What I want is a woman to satisfy both these men in me, someone who engages my heart and my passion. I want a woman who is generous, strong, beautiful, selfless, and smart as a tack. I want someone who can hold their own when the conversation turns to science or philosophy. I want someone who rises above the chicken and beer existence that most of us settle for.
