"Is all that we see or seem but a dream within a dream?" -- Edgar Alan Poe.
A Los Angeles native, when I am not stuck in traffic cursing out those who just moved here, what with their cart-and-buggy driving skills, I am in love with the city... mostly for all that it has to offer up by way of it being the ultimate multicultural melting pot! I jumped on POF to meet some fun peeps in the neighborhood or close by.
Basically, I am pretty laid back with the exception that extended conversation is THE place for debate, differing opinions colliding etc. I like almost anything that challenges me intellectually, spiritually, physically... Know that going in!
That being said, here's the status quo with me: Time is of the essence.
I spend my weekdays couped up, writing and producing projects at my company. During the week, the most I do at night is meet up for a good meal and perhaps a film. So I am looking for someone who understands the creative life, the self-imposed isolation that goes with the territory of being a filmmaker, writing and producing until projects are greenlit into production. Maybe someone who can liven up the post 9-to-5 hours with me...
I enjoy sharing weekends with a female comrade, doing the simple and the easy: shopping, antiquing, thrift-shopping, seeing flix at ArcLight, old movies at revival theaters (card carrying member of American Cinematheque, y'all!), museum stomps are good, small jaunts out of L.A. as what I like to call "mini-vacs" (ie small vacations), eating out as an adventure, cooking together can be magic, hiking in the Hollywood Hills or just taking long walks, especially in the rain! God I love the rain!
What else? Too much education to get into here...
Best film of 2008 = Tie! Between "Slumdog Millionaire" and "In Bruges"... The yin and yang of it all... The former is optimistic, an adventure in service of Hope and Love... Basically, the religion we all aspire to. The latter, affirms a darkly cynical view of the world. As it really is.... muah-ha-ha! ;-)
CDs in me car = Glen Hansard & Marketa Irglova's The Swell Season, The Frames, Animal Kingdom, Death Cab For Cutie, Radiohead, Peter Murphy, Postal Service, Bright Eyes, Nat King Cole & Chet Baker, The Clash, Generation X, The Jam, The Who, Arcade Fire, the end credits song I wrote for my last film etc. Proud 80's Punk & New Wave aficionado!
Favorite books = The Great Gatsby, Catcher In The Rye, Watership Down, To Kill A Mockingbird, In Cold Blood, Tropic Of Cancer, Tuesdays With Morrie, The Road.
Favorite guilty pleasure reading = Barry Eisler's John Rain novels (a real hep-cat-assassin if ever there was one!)
Last book I read = The Gardner Heist by Ulrich Boser
Currently in the middle of Lee Child's Killing Floor
Next read is something by Ekhart Toll, because all you ladies like him...
Favorite Restaurants => $$$$ = Bastide, Melisse, Spago, Dan Tana's, Nozawa $$$ = Barbrix, Le Petite Bistro, Pan Y Vino, Lou, Tasca, Vermont $$ = Elf, City Sip, Robin Hood Tavern for fish + chips, Bella Vista for mom and pop Italian and great pizza $ = La Caridad, Cafe Bravo, Bowery for best burger, Phillips for best BBQ. The ever-faithful Micky D's for a midnight Big Mac or 89 cent cheeboogie! But nothing beats... The home-cooked meal. Taking offers... '

&
Can you handle it?
I'll meet you in a dark bar or restaurant ('

') where we can have a drink ('

') and see if the chemistry is in play. By this I mean, is there an attraction in person first, then an intellectual coming-together second, and finally, can we be around one another without ideology, politics and religion separating us!
In the end, it comes down to chemistry, right? If that all looks to be in place on a first date -- a tall order, I admit! -- well, then I'm game for the unknown, or whatever unfolds naturally... The best is when the first date is so good that it takes you, as Frank Sinatra crooned, "into the wee small hours of the night."
