So, I've been to quite a few wedding in the past year and inevitably someone mentions the phrase "Until I met her/him" in one of the toasts... And I realized something this summer that I'd never thought about... At this point, being a single guy... I can't answer the question "what am I looking for"... Oh, sure, I can name things that I like... Features and qualities that she "should" have... but those are most likely just a laundry list of things I HAVE liked about someone in the past... Probably a good starting place, but in no way the definitive answer.

So I guess thinking about that has kind of changed my view on what this site should bring. In my grandiose view, this could be the place where I meet my future...

More practically, this site is a place to meet some new friends and new people outside of my everyday life who are single and are at least somewhat looking for the same:

Someone who won't be heartbroken if we don't click, won't be opposed to finding only a new friend, would wouldn't turn down the opportunity to develop into best friends, and who is at least open to the idea of something more... Because I think I've learned that you really never know what you're looking for until you find it...

There is not typical date... But I do believe a first date has some key elements:

1.) It's safe. No so much from a security standpoint (although that is important also), but just in total. I think the best dates are the ones where it's not going to be crushing, emotionally, if it doesn't work out. If you've talked every night for 4 weeks and really hit it off before meeting the first time, there's tons of pressure... And I don't think you can get an accurate read. I've always had much more luck meeting someone after a couple emails back and forth rather than building the tension up for weeks before meeting.

2.) A first date should give you a chance for chemistry. I think too many dates are prepackaged and give very little chance for success. I think the best way for success is putting two people in very real situations and see how they react to each other. Sitting across the table from someone grilling them about their life doesn't seem like a really good way to find the girl of your dreams. I usually try to find something that both gives a conversation spring board and interest both of us.

3.) There's always room for improvement. I think too many people try to make the first date absolutely perfect... In my experiences, it's the first dates that peek interest that are the best... Where you have a great time and can't wait for the next date... but not because you were so totally blown off your feet necessarily, but because you don't know what's going to happen next. But you want nothing more than to find out... THAT's what a first date is all about... At least for me ;)
