About Me
I've lived in Vegas for a year and made a few new friends, but haven't made that meaningful partnership yet. What's kept me single? The easy answer is that I run my own business and you've heard how many 15-hour workdays that takes. But ultimately, I'm independent and don't need to lower my goals in fear of being single. "Feel the fear and do it anyway."
I like technology, blogs, cats, caves, cuisine, crafts, classic rock, and alliterations. I can discuss useless trivia, the importance of equal rights and personal liberty, atheism, and vegetables. If you're into those things too, chances are we'll get along swell. I try not to take anything too seriously. I'm very turned off by smoking, drugs, and anyone looking to hook up. I'm a graphic designer in print and web, with degrees in art and interpersonal communication.
Many people define themselves with the music and movies they're into, so a good way to know what I'm like is music by They Might Be Giants, Liam Lynch, and Ween; plus some Doctor Who, Office Space, and Rocky Horror Picture Show. Thus I'm a little nerdy and creative but with a dark edge. I sing along to musicals, appreciate all types of comedy, and often remind myself: "What would aliens think if they saw this?" I think you shouldn't hurt anyone, actually help them if you can; that friends and family make life worth living, and 2am is the best time to build a cardboard tube robot costume.
Halloween is my favorite holiday and my favorite vacation was Paris where I toured the Catacombs and studied the art and architecture of the French Revolution. The most beautiful place I've seen is Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico when I meandered across the country in 2007 from Michigan to Dallas to Vegas. I travel cheap, light, and often. The polite way to describe me is "frugal" - I'm a sucker for discounts and have been known to build elaborate spreadsheets while shopping for my home theater.
I spend most of my days working, but I also play games/cards, dine out, hike easy to moderate trails, goof around on the internet (surfing, blogging, making graphics/sites), arts and crafts, watching movies, going to plays and concerts, reading, getting free stuff, and various intellectual pursuits. I'm not a big fan of dancing, sports, or debating. Things I would love to try are snowboarding or rock climbing, but I'm not in good enough shape yet. I go to the gym to work on that, but as-is, I'm overweight and you'll need to be ok with that. I was training for the Elvis Marathon, but I couldn't find my sideburns and I wanted to die after eight miles.
I will be nice, supportive, silly, curious, and adventurous. You need to be non-religious, progressive, and financially stable or have a plan to get there. Bonus points if you dabble in tech, have short hair, freckles, a cat, an accent, view gender as a construct, or agree that spelling counts. None of those are required of course, but boy imagine if the universe gave you what you asked for, right?
Honestly, I can go weeks without remembering to check my dating folder, and forgive me if we might have crossed paths once but didn't see where things might go. I'm better motivated now, and my schedule has eased up, so I'm looking forward to meeting you and becoming friends, hopefully more.
First Date
The best relationship would be based on friendship, so something casual and fun would be nice. I don't have much experience dating, so I certainly welcome any suggestions. I love trying new things; there's very little you couldn't challenge me to. The First Friday Art Fair is a good stroll, or picking a new restaurant, maybe a comedy club or concert. There's also hiking, bowling, a card game, laser tag, paintball, horseback riding, yoga class, shooting range, DDR, volunteering, game of badminton, darts, billiards, Guitar Hero Showdown... whatever you're into, as long as there's smalltalk and a few laughs, I'd be happy just to be together. I usually don't get physical with someone until we know each other better.
