I'm 43, single with no kids, and work as a software engineer. I enjoy software development and I like staying up with the latest trends and ideas in my field (at least germane to the environment in which I work). I'm also a big kid/geek and like various and sundry electronic gadgets. I've been known to dress up when the occasion warrants it, but you will most often find me in jeans, t-shirts, and sneakers or other ultra casual wear.

I try to stay fit and enjoy being active. Running is an especial love, with preference for the longer distances (half marathons, marathons). Biking is on close to an equal footing, and I really like getting out for a long ride. The two interests have led into couple of duathlons and then triathlons, though the swimming needs lots of work. I also enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, biking, volleyball, bowling, swimming, etc. I enjoy making a weekend (or longer!) trip around a race and I also like traveling for hiking and camping.

I also enjoy a littany of less active pursuits - dinners out, plays, shows, movies, or being a couch potato and reading, watching tv, playing video games (first person shooters, rpgs - Xbox 360 or Wii), doing a crossword puzzle, or just hanging out with good company. I'm relaxed/easygoing, like to think I have a decent sense of humor, and can be just plain silly when the situation warrants it.

Looking for a friend to start - somebody with whom I can hang out and enjoy various active and non-active things. I'm open to more if it develops and wouldn't run from a relationship, but it's not a requirement nor an "expectation" from the outset - if it happens, it happens and I'll count myself lucky. If not, hopefully I'll at least have made a friend.

A good match for me would be active, into health and fitness (perfection isn't expected, just a reasonable commitment to the goal), and have a healthy dose of what I like to call "goof factor." I like to think I'm an easygoing, relaxed person with a low-level of drama, so meeting somebody similar on those counts would work well.

I'm going to paraphrase from a profile I read on here that distinguished between a first "meeting" and a first "date." He was right. For a first meeting, something casual is great - meeting for a cup of coffee, doing something active like a run or bike ride together, just chatting a bit along the way.

A first date is what happens if the first meeting sparks interest in both parties... And, to me, that really has no limits - as long as it's something both people will enjoy.
