I'm really only looking for friends, not a mate. I consider myself a "stranger" on the plentyoffish dating site BECAUSE...I'm married and have 3 over 18 kids living at home. I'm working and doing great, but I need some contact with the outside world, so I get into blogging, forums, etc...
I'm a big music fan of just about any type you can name, but mostly American music, like rock, r&b, country, gospel, Broadway, jazz, movies scores, classical, soul; and just music for music's sake. I've even gone to concerts by Chinese one-string instrument players.
I'm kind of esoteric when it comes to tv, movies and books. I'm not into mainstream stuff as much as I am arty stuff that's not all that easy for me to "get". I much prefer PBS over network tv and I like alot of cable shows. I almost never watch shows that have 1, 2 (laugh), 1-2-3 (laugh)type of formats though. They bore me to tears... ditto reality shows. I don't like action movies very much. I don't like special effects movies that much. I really like movies that are kind of foreign in style... that show the way things are in the world and are not that tightly wound around plots and individuals.
I love Shakespeare, Stanley Kubrick and Shyamalan films...I like historical documentaries.
I consider myself a progressive when comes to politics. I'm 180 against neoconservatism, but don't consider myself a liberal, either. There are many issues on which I disagree with other progressives. My view of government is that private wealth and strong government are both good, but should act as checks and balances with each other. Too much of one and not the other leads to big problems.
I'm basically a working guy from a working class background and have a mind that's more sympathetic to working people than big business owners, although I'm grateful we have those things and I'm not a revolutionary or anything close. I'm not an extremist, but I prefer to vote for government policies which benefit everyone rather than one small group.
