ABOUT ME:
Originally from the northeast, but right now I’m a graduate student (nerd) in biology. For my research, I spent a few years living in Costa Rica chasing dangerous snakes around [Edit: and was recently on TV for it! So I'm famous now]. Yes, that is awesome. Now I live in Miami, and it is considerably less awesome. There are a lot of things to appreciate about the area, but I'm a fairly atypical character for this area and I’ve found it really hard to meet my “type” of friendly, down-to-earth people. Especially women people. So, to the internets!

Although I do take my life and career seriously, I don’t think there’s anything I can’t laugh at, and do so most of the time. I don’t drink at all, rarely head out to bars unless it’s a relaxed place with some friends, and wouldn’t be caught dead in a club. The only professional sport I follow is MMA, but I make up for that by being completely obsessed with it. I also train a few days a week, but am by no means what you would consider “good”. I like to cook, and make the world’s meanest chocolate-chip cookie. I rarely get hooked on video games (been on the wagon for a few years now), but when I do it will absorb a full weekend easily. I love the paranormal (aliens, ghosts, bigfoot, that sort of nonsense) even though I don't believe in it. My musical tastes lean towards the loud, obscure, and experimental. I’m also kind of a movie snob but also a sucker for horror... a zombie or giant alligator/snake/wombat/etc. will get my butt in the theater every time.


WHAT I'M DOING WITH MY LIFE:
Right now I’m attempting to finish up my PhD (of course, I’ve been saying that for over a year now), while still enjoying life in the meantime.


MY FAVORITE BOOKS, MOVIES, MUSIC, AND FOOD:
Books – Well, I read a LOT of academic stuff for work, so when I'm at home I usually unwind with fiction. Little Big, Blood Meridian, Watchmen, House of Leaves, Anubis Gates, Weaveworld, Cryptonomicon, Perdido Street Station, Our Band Could Be Your Life, A People's History of the United States
Movies – A mix of highbrow and lowbrow. The Thing, Donnie Darko, Ghost Dog, Dead Man, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Conan the Barbarian, Jaws, Big Lebowski, Apocalypse Now, The Fountain, Alien, Dawn of the Dead, Gangs of New York, the Muppet Movie, the Shining, Futurama
Music – No, I never grew up. Faith No More, Clutch, Melvins, Social Distortion, Avail, Tom Waits, Dillinger Four, Isis, COC, Nick Drake, Joe Strummer, Kyuss, Black Flag
Food – chocolate, ice cream, sushi, Italian, things wrapped in bacon. Really, anything that does not involve asparagus.

Actually, I think an ideal first meeting for this kind of situation should be fairly casual, to actually try and get to KNOW someone. I guess you could say I'm looking more for a friend first, see if there's some chemistry, and go from there.

As long as there's some good food and good conversation, I'd be pretty happy. Beyond that, I'm open to suggestion. But it should involve dessert.
