No more puppy mills in Québec !"The Montreal SPCA wants more powers to fight against puppy mills.
Right now the Montreal shelter is overflowing with animals because of two recent raids that found hundreds of dogs living in terrible conditions. The SPCA has launched a petition demanding the ability to undertake inspections
and intervene more quickly -- without having to get court warrants every time.
It also wants the right to charge those who run the mills for food and medical services for seized animals."
~ Quote CTV NewsIn addition, laws need to be toughened on breeders of puppy mills,
and those who perpetrate animal cruelty. Fines imposed on puppy mill owners
are minimal, in spite of dogs being found in cruel, and deplorable conditions.
Jail sentences are nonexistent.
Individuals convicted of animal cruelty are barred from owning an animal
for up to two years. They absolutely should be recieving a Lifetime Ban.
They have forfeited their right to animal ownership.
The
Petition is available at the
SPCA MONTREAL website.
