I've been a both a jazz musician and computer scientist, and still do both plus plenty of other things. I have a deep emotional side and a rational analytic side. Each side is capable of messing up the other side. ha! I strive to find rhythm and elegance of expression in everything I do without ignoring simple playfulness and fun. I stopped working in Bay Area clubs like Pearl's and Yoshi's when my daughter was born, but now that she's off to music school I've started playing again. Unlikely to ever hit the road again, but playing as well as listening brings deep joy and satisfaction - more so if shared with a kindred spirit. I enjoy simple low-tech stuff that is also challenging, e.g. learning how to create a vertical plant wall in the fashion of Patrick Blanc or learning how to germinate blue palm tree seeds. (update: the seeds have root filaments, one of them has sprouted a 6" trunk!) I think it is fun to learn by doing and bring that attitude to most things. I might appear to be overly rational about things at times, but that's partly because of lifelong training and practice as a scientist and engineer and partly because I need to understand how things really work. Underneath is a warm heart and soul that sometimes channels Peter Sellers. Does your dog bite? no. ouch! That eees not my daug. I hope to meet a kindred spirit who is comfortable with science experiments in the kitchen, saving styrofoam in plastic bags for additional attic insulation, MTT and the SFO, a three-day crawl up the coast, hiking the dish, growing a banyan tree on the dining room table, the California Pops Orchestra, computational finance, DIY solar energy, and just glad to be alive and standing next to you!

I prefer a phone call before a first meeting. Wouldn't you? Then something casual. Meeting for a beverage is fine as long as there is a way to walk around... I don't like to sit for too long especially in a non-ergo environment.
