About Me
I work as a Social Studies teacher in the NYC school system. It's a lot of fun, and don't let those naysayers tell you it isn't. If you teach and you aren't having fun then you are either at a bad school or you need to find a new line of work. Though I do appreciate the days off, I really do enjoy going in every day to see those bright young faces eager to learn. You may notice that I do have a heavy sense of sarcasm.
For free time, I like to take some time in beautiful Prospect Park and read a challenging and/or fun book. I range from fiction that really grips my interest to a historical analysis of world history, with some emphasis on the Middle East (usually). When I am not reading, I go to the gym, and I do actually like it, when I know I have plenty of time and don't have to worry about the parking game in Brooklyn. I'm not one of these people that just goes and gets on the treadmill for an hour, then calls it a day. If you aren't hitting the weights, you're wasting your time. When I am not doing the gym, I am playing rugby in Brooklyn. I play for an actual team, which is great, because playing without a team gets lonely after awhile.
Love to travel as well, I've been to Ireland and London, as well as Turkey. Well, Istanbul, really, but that's in Turkey so it counts. Would love to find someone else who loves to travel. My goal is to experience as much of the world before it's time for me to go.
On my ipod you can usually find a lot of bands that are Heavy Metal. I'll leave some names here, points if you know any of them: Nightwish, Lacuna Coil, Within Temptation, Iron Maiden, Iced Earth, Blind Guardian, Opeth, Dropkick Murphys, just to name a few. Lately, I've been listening to rap and hip hop. That's mainly because 99% of the kids I teach love that stuff, so I try to connect with them.
Most people would describe me as funny, I guess I fit the big guy stereotype in regards to physical comedy ala Chris Farley, RIP. I can tell a dirty joke as well as anyone, or can just make a comedic interpretation of daily life. Sometimes I get real philosophical too, I can go for hours on why people drive on parkways and park in driveways or why there are so many fried chicken places and chinese restaurants in my neighborhood.
Hopefully, I'd like to meet a laid back girl who is looking for someone to go on adventures and live life to the fullest. There is so much to do in this city and beyond, and it's all the better when you have someone to experience life with. You don't have to be fit, but I get along better with girls who do work out. Just another thing we can talk about in common with.
First Date
I like to leave that open. Because if I tell you, then it's no longer surprising. If we both have metro cards, we can meet at some random hub of activity and take in the surroundings, and each other. Or, if we don't, then we can come up with some other method. Personally, I prefer somewhere we can have a chat. Parks and bars/coffeeshops are good for that, museums and movies, not so much. I'm a very spontaneous person, so if I see something interesting, I'd be more apt to do that.
