First date is the time to get to know each other and see if there are sparks and if you want it to go anywhere. It's also a time when you figure out what that person is likely to be in your life, ex. friend, one nighter, nothing at all, partner, possible life mate. So a first date is important, because you don't want to over do it and figure out you planned too much and wish you hadn't. I like to keep it simple, coffee, drinks, or game of pool. Have it early enough that if it goes well, you can continue on to dinner or movie, or walk on the beach. Who knows where it could lead, but certainly no sex on a first date.
