I can be readily described as a modern man... with a touch of the past within my soul... If I have done my job here properly you will see what that means.
I am one of those very rare breeds who was born and raised here on Vancouver Island and never moved away (how many folks like that do you really know?). I just love the Island. There is so much to see and do here, and I still haven't done nearly all that I would like to!
As both laypeople and medical practitioners alike have indicated that the likelihood of me retaining my own hair for several more years will increase astronomically by doing so, I’ve stepped aside from management in the transportation industry. I am now a mere driver, so (naturally?) I gravitate towards driving in my leisure time. I do love to get out and about, for daytrips, picnics, general exploring and adventure on this paradise Island we call home. The "man purse" you see in the photos is of course my camera bag--being an avid amateur photographer she is never far from my side. I love making a record of the adventures I take.
A California road trip a few years ago has ignited a bit of a bug for more extensive travel as well. What would you think about driving the US Route 66 from end to end? How about the Trans Canada? I must at some point see the Cabot Trail in the fall. Ditto for the Grand Canyon. Motoring through Mexico would be royally cool too. I do quite enjoy air travel as well. Twist my rubber arm and jet me off to places far away. Go for it. I just might know enough of the language of your chosen destination to get us into very big trouble.
I also tremendously enjoy live theatre and live comedy. There is a very special magic in seeing something done in real time and partaking in the group experience, which is missing in a lot of the media we otherwise have access to.
Being one of those guys who muddles his way through that necessary evil called cooking, I do also enjoy dining out. If you ever cook for me, I will most gratefully fully look after the cleanup. When so inclined, I can put Felix Unger to shame. There are some amazing little gems here on the island...I've had opportunity to explore some, however exploration is always best done in pairs--shall we explore some of the culinary delights together?
For those times when “out and about” isn’t quite so feasible, I am well set up for and enjoy those quieter times at home as well. As my "handle" suggests, I am into many kinds of music, with a special place in my heart for oldies, classic rock/soul/country and jazz. I can't say I've gained the appreciation of classical, opera and rap yet. You like a good challenge, don't you? Between XM and my collection, we can quite nicely satisfy the musical palate. And we can clean up at Music Trivia!
If movies are more your speed, I am pretty well evenly divided between action and comedy. I do also like a good drama and well-done sci-fi as well. I am not even ashamed to say that I have a number of "chick flicks" in my collection as well! What can I say? I’m an eclectic kind of guy. If you’d like, for movie nights at home, I can have people come in for extra effect to spill Pepsi down your neck, throw popcorn, whisper details of the plot or (ahem) make out behind us. I do have to draw the line at gum under the seats, though.
Not only am I getting up over the hill but actually shrinking, at least according to the sawbones’s height chart. He's in a converted old house; I'm sure the building must have settled a bit. Could my hat perennially blowing off mean less cerebral matter? Yikes!!! Having to pull the belt on my pants two notches tighter since starting this route is not such a bad thing. Actually, a small tribute to a great friend I've made on here. (Thanks, J. You do a great job of keeping me on my toes--but I am young at heart, you're mistaken). "J" takes sheer delight in teasing me by saying I'm so old. Nice try!!!
If I have added you to my favourites list it means I found something interesting or intriguing about you and/or your profile and I am "book marking" you so I can hopefully say "hi" sometime. Please don't be shy, make me smile and write first. It is one of the nicest possible compliments you ladies can show. I am a modern man with traditional values, but this really could soften my heart!
To me, you can’t definitively decide that someone is “right” for you by merely reading a profile and looking at some photos. You likewise cannot decide that person is “
NOT right” for you either. Nor do I believe that "chemistry" is necessarily instantaneous. I do not exclude people who don't post a photo. If you have taken the trouble to write to me first, I’ll make sure your efforts are acknowledged, each and every time.
I firmly believe that a great, even somewhat whacked, sense of humour is a major necessity for survival in this wild and wonderful day and age we now live in. I am the epitome of easy-going; please don't be shy. I most definitely don't bite (unless you really want me to). Thank you ever so much for dropping by and happy

. Hold it! If you are fishing, yes you do want me to bite. What can I say – natural blonde!
A first get together should be in a relaxed and informal setting which will allow us to get to know one another. The Nanaimo Seawall is of course a great standby. Having lived here all my life, perhaps there is some place I can show you that you didn't know about. Or maybe you have one that I didn't know about.
The bottom line is that it doesn’t really matter where we go or what we are doing. If that special connection is there, whatever we are doing will be simply wonderful. And no, I don’t rely on the cellphone for that friend “excuse” call. If we take the time to get to know one another beforehand and like what we see, that chicken-livered copout will really not be necessary anyway.
