This is a lot harder to do than it looks. My last blurb was a bit stale, so let's start over, shall we? I'll be honest and blunt this time around, and if that goes over like a fart at a funeral, well, guess I'll have to don the writer's cap yet again.
I'm 34, I'm laid back, and I love to laugh. I'm often told I don't look my age, and many times told I don't act it either. But what's the point of acting "grown up" all the time if it doesn't make you happy? Not to say I can't or don't act my age, but when I let my hair down, so to speak, I prefer to go casual, joke around, and generally have a good time. Life's too short to have a stick up your butt, and honestly, doesn't that chafe after a while?
Something near and dear to my heart is my liver. Um, I mean, homebrewing beer. I've been doing it for a few years now and it's a hobby I absolutely love. Not surprising, since I also love to cook. And also not surprising, I love to try new and interesting foods and to sample craft beer from around the world.
I'll warn you, I'm a bit of a geek, but I make it work. Now how many guys will be that honest? Don't worry, you won't catch me playing Dungeons and Dragons in my mom's basement (I outgrew that odd phase of my life in middle school and besides, my parents live in another state). I enjoy video games, but not obsessively. I prefer to play with friends, either online or in a group, and usually more party style games. Rock Band, anyone? I also love board games, preferably the less common kinds. And what night of geekery wouldn't be complete without some half-intellectual, half-goofy conversation slowly devolving into madness as the hours tick by?
I sound like some kind of catch, huh? It's a wonder I'm separated and single.

Aside from the geekery, I enjoy more normal things as well. I love all seasons and try to get out to enjoy the mix of weather as much as possible. I enjoy swimming and tennis in the warmer months, and love the winter snow. I used to be an avid downhill skier, though I haven't been since starting college many years ago (mainly cost and time). I'd love to start that up again. I also have a brand new pair of snowshoes I'm looking forward to breaking in this next winter, and enjoy sledding/tubing and general silliness in the snow. I still come in from the cold covered in snow. I also enjoy music, and noodle around on the guitar and bass from time to time.
I'm not into sports as much as most guys, but I do enjoy them. I don't have a favorite team, and I enjoy (when it's safe to do so) driving people crazy by rooting for both the Yankees and the Red Sox, preferably in the same game. That's definitely something I only do in safe company, for obvious reasons.
As far as schooling and work go, I have a BS in Communication from RPI, and I work as a kind of best practices guy for both technical documentation and for internal communications at a large software company in the area. It's an interesting job that I've kind of morphed into over the past year or so. I think the best part of my job is working with others to make positive changes that improve the work lives of many. Improving the workplace truly makes me happy in my work.
At home, I have two wonderful girls who keep me busy; my schedule isn't always my own. They bring me much joy, and I'm grateful to have them in my life. They're with me a good portion of each week, and "Dad's Taxi" makes a couple regular runs each week.
So why am I here and what am I looking for? Well, after 11 years of marriage I'm really not looking to jump right into a serious long term relationship and settle down at this point to be 100% honest, but I'm not discounting the possibility of meeting that special someone either. I'd love to find someone to enjoy a nice evening out with, or a fun day at an amusement park or lake, and generally enjoy time with.
I'm looking for someone who loves to laugh, who doesn't take things or themselves too seriously. Someone who enjoys getting out and enjoying what the world has to offer, as well as someone who could also enjoy a quiet evening in or a fun evening with friends. Someone who can enjoy our time together yet understands the need for personal time as well. Someone who is smart, witty, and who is their own person.
Might that someone be you?
I like to get to know people first, so an environment where we can relax and talk, such as a coffee house or quiet pub, works for me. I wouldn't be opposed to dinner either (sushi, anyone?), or perhaps a walk in a park or nature trail now that it's nice out.
