People are intersting to watch while traveling about. Interaction of couples in a restaurant is quite telling. Those that eat and seldom talk are wallowing in unhappiness. If it is a first date- slim hope for that to blossom.

Talking, laughing and touching- now that is an attraction. Many list restaurant as a first date- worst mistake as there is no common ground to share yet. Better to walk around a museum, art gallery or shopping/strip mall. Flea market can be loaded with laughs. Anywhere that negates the possibility of a "job interview" first date.
