let's see... starting my master's at bowling green state university over in the ass-end corner of ohio. musician, composer actually, though I am reasonably accomplished as a vocalist and on several wind instruments. hardcore geek - computers mostly, loads of video games, though I also completely nerd out on tv documentaries, comic books, stuff like that.

however, aforementioned nerdery aside, I am also a pretty active person. I love sports and the outdoors, and I like to run around and do stuff... probably mostly because of the adhd... yeah... I am generally a pretty laid-back person, and I can have fun doing just about anything given adequately interesting company.

I do have my opinions, and I am not shy about them. I find my problem isn't so much that I am opinionated but that I enjoy discussing potentially volatile things like politics, culture, religion, stuff like that. sometimes it just doesn't go over well, you know? I really am a good conversationalist if you aren't afraid to share often differing opinions; I like to know what other people believe, because that's how we learn the most about what we believe. but I can have a decent conversation about less contentious things too, so don't be a stranger either way. there's scads of other intriguing factoids about me and my obscene levels of randomness, but I'll let you find that out on your own.

even if I am really into you, it's probable that I will initially try and make friends. I have lots of female friends, so if for whatever reason something doesn't work out I'm perfectly content with making another. the relationships in my past that have gone wrong went wrong in no small part because there wasn't any sort of preexisting friendship, which I am starting to realize is a very important foundation upon which lasting relationships should be built. so while I realize many of you ladies out there are hoping for something serious, please don't take it as a rejection when I say I would prefer to at least initially get to know you as a friend.

when looking for someone, there are a few things I am hoping to spot. appearance is not the ULTIMATE criterion in a potential significant other, but it is kinda important in any serious romantic prospect. anyone who tells you otherwise is either visually impaired or trying really hard not to come across as 'that kinda guy'. not gonna lie, I'm a guy with typical levels of testosterone in his system, and to be perfectly honest, t&a will always net plenty of bonus points. I'm somewhat atypical in that I tend to gravitate toward women of, let's say, a more curvaceous persuasion, but I am by no means exclusive of other types, so even if you're not sure you 'fit the profile', it never hurts to roll the dice and if nothing else I like making new friends.

physical attraction is what it takes to get things rolling, but personality is what it takes to keep things rolling. I enjoy stimulating conversation and am not big on the superficial, so while for example a brief humorous discussion of the latest celebrity shenanigans is a fun icebreaker, a play-by-play of hollywood skank of the week's torrid fling with hollywood flake of the week (especially when punctuated by aim-speak acronyms) to open every conversation is probably not gonna fly with me for long. I am big on depth, and no, spirited and forgettable rambling about the cause of the week doesn't count.

ultimately, everyone has something that makes them them, and it would be pointless to try and encapsulate what it takes to meet my short-sighted expectations in this little box. if you want to try and be my friend, just take a chance. it never hurts to try, and I'm a pretty accommodating person. don't be a stranger, 'kay?

hurm... first time out I like to keep things low-key. rushing in is ALWAYS a bad idea. I hate to sound boring, but just a fun conversation over coffee or ice cream works just fine for me. if something else (within reason... geez...) were to develop, I guess we'd take it from there. if you're used to a bit faster pace and it doesn't seem like I'm willing to charge ahead, it doesn't mean I'm not interested. on the contrary, it probably means I am struggling mightily to keep from coming on too strong and shooting myself in the foot... again.
