Do you want children? Does not want children

About Me
I read voraciously and spend entirely too much time online (because I'm addicted to information). I love to eat and drink. I am interested in (and have an opinion on) virtually everything.
I'm a girl geek; intelligent, educated. Does Mom have a "virus" on her computer? Has Dad "lost his internet"? (Sigh.) It seems like I've done tech support for 25 years. Oh wait, I have.
I used to build websites back in the day when a one-person shop could compete, but those days are over. I did enjoy coding, though.
I love experiencing the best of what life has to offer. Fairly well-traveled; I've lived in Boston, Baton Rouge, Reno, and Baltimore. I've also done quite a bit of traveling in New England and out West. I had a lovely weekend in Montreal years ago - visited the gorgeous Botanical Garden.
I've done everything for a living (my resume looks fictional). Well, maybe not everything YET.
I love to cook, but honestly, it's just no fun for one person. If you like to cook, and like to cook WITH someone, great!
I'm a Native East Tennesseean and damned proud of it. My grandfather was a coal miner.
I have two cats (AKA "the crazy cat lady starter kit) who are worse than toddlers when it comes to mischief. One is named Tootie and the other one is named "Dammit, cat!"
I am also a fish geek (fresh water only). I don't have any aquariums at the moment, but that may change. I've had all sizes, and also love to landscape them. I even bred Kribensis for a while. I love cichlids, but I'm also equally happy with fancy guppies.
THIS JUST IN: I have finally found the perfect date. According to someone very close to me, my perfect date is Brian the Dog on Family Guy. And you know what? I would totally go out with him.
So if you're an articulate cartoon dog who likes martinis (or your name is Seth McFarlane), call me!
Things I am good at: -Trivia. I have WAY too many totally useless factoids cluttering up mah brayne. -Spelling and grammar. Yep, I'm that person. -Teaching. See above. -Being frugal. I can squeeze a nickel 'til it screams. I'm the one that eats the leftovers, uses both heels of the bread, and cooks the stalks of the broccoli. I cannot stand to see something go to waste.
Which is not to say that I don't enjoy treating myself or even being extravagant on occasion; in my mind, it all balances out.
Favorite stuff:
a) Books: The Road, Rainbow's End, The Lovely Bones, The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, Running With Scissors, The Kite Runner, Cold Mountain, The Time-Traveler's Wife, the Outlander series, Life of Pi, the Hyperion series ( I can't remember everything I've read!). Authors: Stanislaw Lem, Iain Banks, Margaret Atwood, Edward Rutherfurd, Vernor Vinge, Charles Stross, Terry Pratchett, Jared Diamond, Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, H.P. Lovecraft, Hunter S. Thompson.
I go to the library every week and bring home a stack of books - of wildly varying genres.
b) I'm a movie junkie. I can remember actors' names better than my own families' (just ask me). I can guess the actor just by listening to their voice. I can tell you who does commercial voice-overs and who does Family Guy gigs. Don't you think that's a highly useful talent? Yeah, neither do I.
And of course, if you haven't guessed by now, I'm a Trekkie. Trekker. Okay, I'm not getting into that silly argument, but I am deeply into the Trek canon, all the series, all the movies (even the bad ones). And the new movie ROCKS on so many levels.
c) Music? I really can't even try to describe this, but here goes, in no particular order (heh):
Scottish punk, Lil Wayne, Eminem, Los Lonely Boys, Matisyahu, Seether, Sublime, Psychedelic Furs, Rage Against The Machine, Foo Fighters, The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, Green Day, best of 70's, Pink Floyd, R.E.M., Rod Stewart, bluegrass, Mozart, Police, Pearl Jam, Holst's "The Planets", Lynyrd Skynyrd, Offspring, Bob Marley, Metallica, 38 Special, Queens of the Stone Age, T Rex, Allman Brothers, Cream, British blues, Delta blues, Ten Years After, Butthole Surfers, Kinks, The Byrds, Linkin Park, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Jones, David Bowie, Rob Zombie, The Real McKenzies, Keane, Fatboy Slim, Stone Temple Pilots, Jerry Reed, Patsy Cline, Charlie Daniels, Steve Earle...
Want me to go on? Okay! The Moody Blues, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Jethro Tull, Tenacious D, Incubus, Everclear, Stevie Wonder, Curtis Mayfield, Al Green, The Verve, The Who, Cake, Husker Du, Korn, Wallflowers, Joe Jackson, The Killers, Alice In Chains, Badfinger, Beck, Waylon, Willie and the Boys...
Led Zeppelin (duh), the Monkees, Nirvana (but a little goes a long way here), Marcy Playground, Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky...
(I'm sure I'll think of more in the future.)
And all those indie bands I listen to on Pandora and Last.fm whose names I can never remember...see what I mean? BUT one caveat: I have to be in the right mood. I just can't listen to Flatt & Scruggs when I want to hear Carmina Burana, you dig?
d) I love to eat. Anything. I especially like trying new things, and yes, I love going out to eat. I love steak and runny eggs; but could also just as easily live on beans and rice and HG tomatoes. I love rare lamb and rare duck and rare tuna and "Pittsburgh-style" steak. I love steel-cut oats.
I am a beer drinker; when I'm slummin' it, I go with the Yuengling, and when I can afford it, I gravitate towards Harp lager. I used to love bock beer - Stroh's had a good one - but haven't seen it in years. Also love good wine; prefer red because I love the tannic taste.
I am weird because:
- when I think something's really funny, I laugh like a hyena - Scottish accents and/or bagpipe music makes me weak in the knees... - I loved the "Clan of the Cave Bear" series by Auel. Yes, I know, it's a paleo-anthropological romance novel. Guilty pleasures rock. - I do counted cross-stitch, you know, just like your grandma. - I know how to keep bees.
------------------------------------------------------------------------- In closing (all of the above notwithstanding), I am an old-fashioned girl in a few respects. I prefer to be contacted first. At the most, I might view your profile, and upon rare occasions, "favorite" you.
So, to all those guys who I see viewing my profile over and over, what are you waiting for? Go for it and see what happens.
