About Me
I'm a country girl, but I enjoy the city now and then. I'm a morning person--by 10:00 am the day is half gone! An amateur historian, I do a lot of research for books I write -- haven't published one yet, but plan to. I also play a little guitar and keyboard, write a little music and sing a little. I'm an amateur actor, writer, coach and director. I love gardening and watching classic films; listening to classic music; collecting sea shells at the sea shore; camping in the mountains (as long as I don't have to sleep in a tent!); watching the shuttle launches; playing at the theme parks; working jigsaw puzzles, Sudoku and Free Cell; dressing up for historical reenactments; playing board games, reading good books; experimenting with paint on canvas; and I love Halloween and Christmas! I'd rather shop online than at the mall. I'm a good cook and love to try new recipes and entertain guests. I'm not interested in sports--used to be, but I'd rather watch them live than on TV (I'll explain later.) I love animals, but I don't like to see them leashed or caged. I adore classic cars; curling up on rainy days; studying the exhibits at a museum; sipping a really rich hot chocolate, and spending a quiet day with someone special. I like beautiful things, but I'm not big on owning a lot of stuff. Family is important. I believe in fidelity, trust, open communication and sex in a committed relationship.
I don't have a hot temper or a short fuse, (as a professional nanny/personal assistant, I can't afford that kind of behavior!) I can't be with someone who does have a hot temper/short fuse. I hate bigotry, religious fanaticism, child abuse and injustice. I am not interested in dating ex-convicts. People find me generous, forgiving, resourceful, creative, strong and intelligent. My worst fault is my potty mouth. My second worst fault is that I can be impatient when time is a factor. I can also be OCD about things, but don't say that like it's a bad thing.
My favorite music is oldies rock and roll. I love Elton, U2, Bon Jovi, Meat Loaf, the Beach Boys and THE BEATLES. My favorite films are Casablanca, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Thin Man, Rio Bravo, Roman Holiday, Johnny Weissmuller's Tarzan, Errol Flynn and Johnny Depp movies. I also think Robert Downey, Jr., Philip Seymour Hoffman, Brendan Fraser and Steve Carrell are BRILLIANT!!! I like good writing in films and music, and my favorite books include Shantaram, Dashiell Hammett, historicals, gothic romance, and sci-fi. On TV, I'll watch Doctor Who, Star Trek, M*A*S*H, and Extreme Makeover:Home Edition, but I mostly watch old movies on TCM or AMC. I love westerns and epics and biopics and romantic comedies. I'm a girl who WILL sit with you through repeats of Star Trek and The Godfather, but I'm bored by sports (well, NO girl is perfect!)
I'm a talent junkie, whether it's acting, writing, music, cooking, carpentry or plumbing. It just fascinates me to watch someone with talent go to work, no matter what that talent is.
If you could be a superhero, who would you be and what is your superpower? Mine would be Empath-the ability to draw out people's pain and suffering and dispose of it. My neighbor created Captain Marvel, so I love superheroes, particularly Superman (well, who DOESN'T love Superman!) and Iron Man, although I also liked Aqua Man. I personally think Atticus Finch should be a designated Superhero. But in lieu of that, heroes are those who put their lives on the line to keep us safe and healthy and free.
I have about 1,500 books--from children's classics to history/biographies to books about the film/music/writing industry-to religion and philosophy and classic literature. My latest trip to the bookstore resulted in bringing home DARK VICTORY: The Autobiography of Bette Davis, CLAPTON (goes without saying), LEWIS AND CLARK THROUGH INDIAN EYES, PARDON MY FRENCH (learning the language and culture), PETER AND THE SECRET OF RUNDOON (by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson) and MOCKINGBIRD: A Portrait of Harper Lee. Favorite authors include Hunter S. Thompson, Isaac Asimov (also a dear friend whom I miss very much!) Harper Lee, William Shakespeare, Jane Austen and Gregory David Roberts (SHANTARAM--best book since TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD and anything written by Charles Dic kens. (I can't believe they **** out his name!)
I'm also studying French and speak a little (very little) bit of Spanish and German. I hope to spend some time in Europe one day, especially visiting England, Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy and Greece. If there's time, I'd like to see Switzerland and Austria, and I hear Barcelona is nice. Casablanca would be cool, too!
I think I'm still the same--in spirit--as I was 30 years ago, though the body betrays me at times--sheesh! That's not fair! But you're the kind of guy who makes me laugh, and spoils me--not necessarily with gifts (although I'm not opposed to them!), but with little nurturing acts of kindness.
Family is important, and we take pride in our kids' abilities to stand on their own two feet. And we both think the other is cute and sexy, in spite of a few extra pounds and wrinkles. So let's get together and laugh and love and live life to the fullest! Genealogy is a hobby and I think one of my ancestors was a pirate sailing with the Lafittes. Maybe that's why I'm so into pirate movies? But if that's the case, then another one of my ancestors must have been raised by apes...?
I'm a typical Aries--whatever that means. I had to get a book to look it up, and doggone, it was dead on! I believe kindness begets kindness. I'm also one of the most patient people you'll ever meet. But I do have a potty mouth. And I generally run a commentary on traffic while I'm driving. Or sing along with the radio.
Definitely, I like to think outside the box! (You know what theat box is, don't you? A coffin!) And I refuse to act my age.
First Date
A first date is about getting to know each other, so a movie is not a good place to do that, although we both love movies. Maybe a hot chocolate at Ghirardelli's at Downtown Disney? A stroll along the lake there? Group activities are also a great place to meet people for the first time and get to know each other in a safe setting. Once we're comfortable, we'll take the next step. We might find a spot where we can stroll or sit at a bistro and talk, or watch people. Maybe spot birds or other creatures. Say, whatever happened to picnics?
A lady likes to meet gentlemen. The worst come-on a guy can use is "I think you're sexy!" Please...save it for somebody else. That's the biggest turn off, as far as I'm concerned. If you're interested in me, at least be original and say something substantial. Read my profile for clues as to what you could say. No mashers or kinky invites, please! Don't get me wrong--I like sex--I even write about it in my romance novels. But sex is more than just a physical coupling. It's an intercourse of trust, fidelity, communication, affection, kindness, selflessness and love between a man and a woman committed to each other and in sympathy with each other's dreams, needs and lifestyle.
You and I will share a spiritual connection, reading great literature in bed, trying new recipes in the kitchen, jamming on guitar, watching old movies, trading massages, playing board games, and having long talks during lovely sunset walks (or sunrise!), traveling, going to festivals, and supportive of each other's dreams. One day, we'll tramp through Europe for a few months on the cheap, discovering the history and beauty and simplicity of life across the pond. Maybe we'll splurge on gas and go watch a shuttle launch on the cape. Or go sailing or cruising? (I love ships! Especially tall ships.) I'm blunt, and don't suffer fools, or play ridiculous head games. You and I have an ironic sense of humor and love to laugh. And we'll laugh a lot together and seek out new adventures. Why not? We're both young at heart, pretty healthy and not burdened with debts and other strings. (You might as well know now that I'm vegetarian, but I won't go all PETA on you if you're not. I've actually cooked meat recently for my boss's family on a regular basis, and they tell me it was world class stuff--they should know--they've traveled the world.)
Neither one of us has a controlling nature, nor do we expect each other to change our ways. We're both too set in them anyway, and are comfortable with the way we are as individuals and as a couple. Our expectations are always communicated so there are no surprises or upsets. Honesty, kindness and fidelity are cherished by both of us. We're also committed to community service and hoping to go green one step at a time.
