How do I write a profile that stands out from the hundreds of others that you’ve read? I’ll start by pointing out that I’m an ardent Star Trek fan who speaks fluent Klingon honed through many years of practice in my parents’ basement where I continue to reside. (Just kidding! Please don’t stop reading… )

Seriously, after many years as a poverty-stricken grad student I’ve now acquired most of the trappings of middle-class adulthood (eg, career, car, condo) – honest! Exercise is very important to me and I’m quite fit, and I assure you I’m not using the word ‘fit’ as a euphemism for something bad (like rake thin). I’m a big outdoors enthusiast (cycling, hiking, etc), and an avid hockey fan. I’m far from perfect and endure my share of trial-and-error (the sort of person who sets off the smoke detector in his condo when he attempts to cook, etc), so you’d have to be willing to put up with that side of me. I hold a PhD, so I like to think I’m at least somewhat intelligent and capable of holding a conversation (otherwise that’s a hell of a lot of tuition money for not!). I love to learn and explore new things, and I’m fortunate to have a career that permits me to do just that. I have a deep commitment to social justice issues, but not in an annoying Lisa Simpson way where I won't stop ranting about racial oppresion while you're applying sun tan lotion at the beach. Finally, I’m a pop culture junkie who frightens many with his encyclopedic knowledge of film and television.
