My job has me meeting new people all the time, usually after they've just been fired... not the best dating pool, really. And I have come to realise that the man of my dreams isn't going to find me while I'm unwinding on my couch watching Dexter... unless he's a pizza delivery guy... and hopefully not a serial killer dressed as a pizza delivery guy...

In a nutshell, I was dropped on my head as a baby (seriously) and moths scare the crap out of me (really seriously). I used to be a goth/punk rocker in high school, but probably the only goth who listened to classical, jazz and blues, folk singers and reggae, and later learned Scottish/Ceilidh dancing. I worked for a time as a nanny to the stars (or one star anyway), and gained some notoriety when I finished second (from last) in a winter rally: I was in a mustang... a truly horrible winter rally car, but a ton of fun. I don't read fashion magazines or have a gym membership, have never confused having a career to having a life, prefer traveling with a backpack to a suitcase, and find smart, quick wit extremely attractive.

And what am I looking for? Well, I guess like all girls, my first crush was on my dad, so maybe if I describe him, that will shed light: He's from a Catholic French Canadian farming family, and is tall, dark, and handsome. Really smart (an engineer), honest, and hard working but dedicated to his family. He's hugely introverted but once you know him, he's a bit of a card (he once totally convinced my childhood neighbor that he was Superman). A huge Mr. Fix-it - I can't tell you how many times I've watched him gut a bathroom or rewire that circa 1972 blender to get it to work again, he built almost all the furniture I have. Loves to cook and will travel for the history/culture/science of it all (a drive in the country has him pointing out irrigation differences, telling aboriginal folklore of the area, etc.). He's one of my biggest fans. But above all else, after 43 years of marriage, he still absolutely loves and adores my mom. And I think that's really what I'm looking for more than anything - someone I can respect and admire for the strong, independent, fun, curious, bright person they are, who can open my eyes to a lot of things but also be completely interested in learning what I know or even discovering new things together... and who knows, perhaps down the road, someone I can eventually grow old with. But for now, we'll just stick with dating!

And this is where you come in. I've made this new years resolution to try something different around town every month. This is huge... I almost never make a plan (much prefer to be spontaneous), and I've even stuck to this one. So far, I've done a bunch of things like hiking, sailing, checking out new bands and comedians, and going to see the RCMP Musical Ride. I'm looking for those hidden gems and someone special to discover them with... so, what do you say?
