I am a firm believer that talking is a lot better way of getting to know someone other than the written word. I find texting a useful way to get to know someone from the start. Then possibly followed up by phone if there is a connection. You cannot read the persons body language, or read them by the tone of their voice by simple email. Conversations flow more freely in instant messaging and you get to know their personality.
