Thanks for stopping by to check things out. I'm a big and burly 38 year old open-book type of guy who is looking for that special someone to share his life with. I have a few piercings and a tattoo- planning on at least one or two more. I'm a pretty casual guy- jeans and a t-shirt or hoodie unless it's totally inappropriate.

I'm definitely a philosophical person, and one might even say that it is the core of who and what I am. I love to think about things, to approach a problem from a new direction, and to find new ways to relate ideas. I thrive on conversation, and see it as life's highlight. I always prefer a meaningful conversation to 'small talk', and love to debate or even argue, as long as it's rational rather than emotional argument.

I'm studying to become a professor of philosophy. School is going well, surprisingly so at times truth be told. I'm entering the final year of my Honours Degree and I defended my thesis last year, an incredibly challenging and rewarding experience. I've never been a huge fan of school but I love to learn, and the subject suits me. Anyone that I would become seriously involved with would have to at least be interested in discussing philosophy, even if they didn't know much about it.

I'm a huge fan of music, and have a fairly extensive collection; somewhere in the neighborhood of 15,000 albums so far. Among my favorite bands are TOOL, A Perfect Circle, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Stone Temple Pilots, Blind Melon, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer, Nerf Herder, Mark Lanegan and Johnny Cash. Far from an exhaustive list though. Basically I like anything other than country. I play bass, and would love to meet someone who plays guitar or is interested in learning to play. I played with a cover band for a few years, and that is something that I'd like to do again once I am done school, even if it's just for fun.

I also love movies, especially if I have someone to curl up with to watch them! I like quirky comedies, sappy romantic movies, and of course anything with a philosophical theme. Pi, Brazil, Donnie Darko, Being John Malkovich, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, When Harry Met Sally, Rushmore, Broken Flowers, Lost in Translation, Punch Drunk Love, The Darjeeling Limited, and The Royal Tenenbaums are all on my 'must-see' list. I also enjoy the occasional sci-fi, action-adventure or summer blockbuster type flick.

I love camping, though I rarely go anymore as I don't really know too may people who go. I also cycle and snowboard, and really enjoy going to the gym, but again I really need someone to go with.

I'm looking for something long-term. That said, even a long term relationship has to start somewhere before it becomes long-term. I sincerely believe that in a relationship, and in life in general, truthfulness, honesty and openness are paramount. The maxim "Love, Loyalty, and Friendship" expresses the trifecta that underwrites any successful relationship.
