I'm not looking for anything too serious. I rarely have any free time lately; working two jobs as a firefighter (even though my B.S. and lab experience is in analytical/water chemistry) and going to class and clinicals leaves me some rare moments to go grab a drink with friends or catch a movie lately. I'm an adrenaline junky, so I am always willing to try something new and exciting. I used to play paintball in local and regional tournaments in Florida, 3-man best of 3/5 format. I even helped form our now defunct college team (got murdered by Purdue and U of I in our first and last national tournament).
In terms of the less expensive hobbies, I enjoy movies and a good book, especially one that is thought provoking, vivid, or tear-jerking funny. I'm currently reading Rock, Paper, Scissors: Game Theory in Everyday Life, The Men Who Stare at Goats, and World War Z, Song of Susannah (Dark Tower VI), and The Philosophical Writings of Descarte (arguably the best bargain book I've found at Borders yet). I tend to jump from book to book depending on my mood, but I steadily chug through them all. My movie preference is about as eclectic as my taste in books. I'm always up for a comedy or zombie flick. I don't have anything against Michael Bay movies (especially ones made out of some of my favorite childhood cartoons...Transformers).
What am I looking for here? Ideally, I want to find a friend first and go from there. A goofy attitude and a willingness to take the spontaneous road trip is always a plus; which reminds me, you must be able to at LEAST tolerate country music. I tend to play it most often in my truck, although I'm a loyal looper as well (if you're really from the Chicago area, you'll understand that reference). I'm a sucker for a beautiful smile and blue/blue-green eyes (genetics...you know). I've always felt that my girlfriend is also my best friend, if that tells you a little bit about how I treat relationships. To me, a girlfriend is someone you can share all the little things with.
I can be a little shy at first (especially on a site like this) so feel free to message me. Keep in mind though, a sense of humor is a must....especially if you're a Cubs fan. And even more so if you're a Cubs fan that's lived on the south side your whole life. If I don't respond right away, please be patient with me, I don't get a lot of time to sit at the computer.
PS - Go Sox!!!!
I would have to say my idea of a great date is trying anything new and exciting. I'm somewhat of an adrenaline junkie, so I love amusement parks, extreme sports, and I love to travel (a road trip in the F150 with country blaring, count me in). On the other hand, I always enjoy the traditional dinner and a movie, possibly heading out to a bar with some friends for darts and laughs especially if the Bears/Sox are playing. I like to explore the city, going to museums and other Chicago landmarks. In the summer, I usually try to get out to Lake Shelbyville downstate and camp at Coon Creek, take the wave runner out on the lake, and just enjoy the small town/country life.
