Nothing is ever quite so daunting to me as a blank space in which you m u s t write something about yourself. There are just too many possibilities for a topic I'd usually avoid. I suppose I'm approaching a transition period, finishing up my masters degree before a test run in the real world to decide if I like it better than university life (or, rather, to work off the debt accrued in rounds 1 and 2 of university so round 3 is less crazy). I'm here, then, to meet new people, be it simply online or in person. Dating is something that does not interest me in the slightest right now. I'm the type of person who isn't interested if there isn't any possibly of something long term, and my life doesn't really allow that right now. School has taken up so much of my life in the past three years that I've have little time for anything else and at present it would be nice to change that. Finding myself with more free time, it would be cool to go to shows, coffee, or just do whatever with new people.
I'm in school for Classics, specifically with an interest in Greek poetry (Homeric to Byzantine) and Greek philosophy (esp. neo-platonists). I'll read anything, and I have fairly eclectic tastes in literature, art, and music. Outside of academic life, I'm an obsessive cook and oenophile, willing to try anything once, and totally crazy about those kinds of recipes that make you go that extra mile for the finished product. I suppose I like creating stuff in general like that.
As for why I posted Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" to my profile, it's always haunted me, like the vaunts and jeers of a distant, but ever-looming failure. A song to keep me humble, I suppose, rather like staring one's own social mortality in the face.
Being outdoors is a favourite thing of mine, be it camping, fishing, hiking, or whatever else. I think I'm probably happiest when out with my dog exploring a brush pile, sitting by the river, or listening to the wildlife while camping on a warm night.
