Normally, I'm from Michigan, where I had men who were simply friends. I miss that. When I say "hang out," it's not to the exclusion of possibly more; yet, a male friend would simply be welcome in my life.

My likes are pretty well covered for now in my "first date" scenario. I'm very interested in this Presidential election, and a Democrat who wanted Barack over Hillary is important... or who at least transitioned to Barack with ease. Not that life is all about politics; yet, this election will determine so much that affects our lives. I sure don't want to have to try to convince anyone of my political choices during such a politically-contentious time. Ha ~ if you've made it this far, and are still conscious, you may actually be interested in writing ;).

My primary music interest is Leonard Cohen... particularly, his lyrics. I love to travel and hope to do more of it, despite airfares. In Montreal, recently, I rode a bicycle for the first time in years and loved it.

With regard to motorcycles, however, I've no interest in riding on one. Did it years ago and loved it; but that was on only dirt roads, two-tracks, and hills. Since then, way too familiar with the downsides of riding... through those I know or have known. So, I just won't be doing it... which eliminates probably 75% of folks here. Oh well... I know there are some truly lovely riders, but this is not negotiable.

On another note, I'm a recycler; prefer thrift stores for shopping ~ differences in style, color, texture, immediately apparent... great prices. Primarily vegetarian; yet, on rare occasion, enjoy a bite of Medium Rare prime rib, piled high with horseradish sauce; liver piled high with onions; and if I attend an outdoor event, never feel like I've really been there unless I've had a hot dog piled high with "everything." A carry-over from childhood, I guess. Don't watch TV [when I did, primarily PBS] and the only radio station I listen to is NPR, both at home and in car.

For this site's purposes, the first date becomes generic. Pleasant, public place for food or coffee. It's the world we're living in today. I want to be able to show up again here tomorrow. The following are the 'ideal' first dates:

If someone truly appreciated Leonard Cohen, going to see him in a Live performance would be a great first date... if he were performing within a reasonable distance [unlikely... I just flew to Montreal to see him for three, consecutive nights]. I don't really like bars, so any drinking would be secondary; perhaps, something with a meal. A low priority, in any case.

Going to a new place or event, where neither of us have ever been, would be an interesting way to see how each of us deals with new experiences. It's crucial that you be pro-Obama, however. Since our country's and our own welfare pretty much hinge on this election, doing something related to him would also be a fine way to spend a first date.

A Live theatre or music performance is still another.

I appreciate curiosity, kindness, and genuine interest, no matter what we're doing.
