About Me
Hi there and thanks for stopping by! I would describe myself as a New Age Hippie, or at least one in training. Over the last 4 or so years I’ve undergone a lot of changes. I’m now into organic foods, healthy eating and sustainable living. I dislike corporate America and see problems with many of the systems around us. We vote with our $$$ and I've recently begin being more conscious about which stores and manufacturers I spend my money with. I'm contemplating doing away with my cable TV and seeing what life is like without it. Now if only Animal Planet and Discovery Health would go off the air! I'd love to home school my daughter in the un-schooling perspective. I call myself “new age” though because instead of burning my bra, protesting in the streets and boycotting the systems I can’t stand, I find it best to befriend them and then work from the inside to change things.
I follow integrative holistic nutrition/medicine and recently graduated from The Institute for Integrative Nutrition’s Immersion Graduate Program as a Certified Holistic Health Counselor. Though I'm currently working full-time in corporate America as a paralegal, I’m building my holistic health counseling biz at a pace that works for me and looking forward to the day when I make my living working from home doing health counseling full time. In my "Profession" field above, I've indicated Holistic Health Counselor (although I'm working as a paralegal) as a step toward manifesting my new career. My health studies have led me to follow a Paleo or ancestral diet (fruits, veggies, meat (grass-fed, humanely raised), nuts and seeds… no grains, very little dairy) but I’m not fanatical about it. I do my share of Cold Stone and Starbucks.
I love the arts, movies, most music genres (jazz and world music are my favs) and find a good debate really, really fun. I'm an academic at heart and creative by nature. I write fiction and poetry here and there. I enjoy going to plays, museums, cooking at home, dining out, visiting local fests and playing board or video games. Sports are good, though I must admit I'm only a fair-weather fan at best. I like outdoor things too, like camping, snow skiing, skating, boating and hanging by the pool in the summer. Trying new things is a must! I can glam up or grunge down and feel great either way. If you prefer or identify with a particular lifestyle, my contradictions just might bother you.
I love deep conversations; if you don’t enjoy intimacy and sharing souls we won’t get very far. I’m intuitive and often feel peoples’ energy and know things about them before they know it themselves (I’m an INFJ). I’m very spiritual and believe in Oneness, enlightenment and the evolution of humanity toward ascension. I feel a deep inner connection to Mother Earth, animals and people. I also believe our thoughts manifest our reality. I see love as the greatest expression of our divinity and approach sex from that viewpoint. I have a healthy sex drive when I’m with the right person and wish to explore tantra with my partner someday. That and dance lessons! I have a few close friends rather than many and don’t really enjoy going to loud, busy places very often. I’d rather cook a meal together at home and then adjourn to the patio afterward with a glass of wine, some candles and jazz and have a meaningful conversation. Then call it a night early. :-)
I'm also a single mom of one very incredible 11 year old girl. When I’m not working, I’m generally with my daughter who is the love of my life. We rent and go to the movies, play board games, go sledding, roller skating, kite flying and now bike riding since she just learned this summer. Although I'm supposed to be her teacher, I've learned so much more from her. Kids are amazing, especially mine! :-) And, here’s a heads up… I don’t have shared custody and my daughter’s father is not involved in her life. From the standpoint of dating and partnering, this is both a blessing and a curse.
About you... shares at least a few of my interests, similar life philosophies and has a good sense of humor--brownie points if it’s sarcastic. Must see the glass half full and appreciate the simple things in life. Prejudice and judgmental attitudes are not a part of my life and shouldn't be part of yours. I'd like someone who takes care of themselves and shares my health and medical views, or is at least open to them. Someone with a sense of style too. I consider a few piercings and tattoos sexy but I'm not into extreme anything. And, finally... you must LOVE children. If this sounds like you (and you’ve managed to read this far!!!), please contact me. Happy hunting if not! Namaste.
First Date
I like activities dates rather than dinner or coffee. I've been known to go roller skating, sledding and even squaring dancing (and neither of us knew how) once on a first date. I think it lightens things up a bit and gets you laughing, which is a great place to start from. :-)
