About Me
I don't fit well into categories or do well with them. My hair color, for example, IS mixed (black and grey) but a better description would be that I have "some." The interests I listed ARE accurate but it would be more accurate to say "everything." I AM looking for a long term relationship but I'd be happy to find a friend to hang out with too. Still, I'll do the best I can ...
Categories: Male/48/divorced/attorney-consultant. I live in midtown Manhattan in a tiny apartment overlooking the east river. The apartment has a wonderful balcony that I don't deserve; it's practically naked. I could definitely use some help making it liveable. Interested?
I have one kid who is married, works for a bank and wants to be a rock star if she grows up. (She claims to be waiting for ME to grow up -- we've agreed to disagree on which of us is the adult.) I have one dog, my very first, about whom I could go on at incredibly boring length, but I'll spare you ... for now. Don't say you weren't warned.
I'm a city-boy and tend to like city-stuff: museums, good restaurants, movies, concerts, theater (I'm a Broadway musical freak), libraries, zoos, parks and just walking around Manhattan. Best street theater in the world if you take the time to look. I'm lucky enough to be able to walk across town, through Central Park, to work every day, and I do take the time whenever I can. Not often enough, but whenever I can.
Though a city-boy at heart, I do escape from time to time. I have a place in the beautiful New England mountains where I hide out when things in the city get hectic. My dog prefers it (yes, I know how weird that sounds) so we've been spending more and more time there. I've been getting pretty fond of it myself. Did you know there are places where rain makes cars cleaner instead of dirtier? I was amazed! We spend a lot of time hiking or snowshoeing through the surrounding woods. Hanging out in front of the fire. Reading (me ... not him ... at least I don't think he reads much.) The kinds of things I'd always imagined doing with another PERSON. I still think that would be nice. The dog agrees.
So ... what kind of person? Female. Breathing. Beyond that I'm flexible. I'm told that strong relationships are built on compatibility and I'm sure that's true. But differences are good too. The more alike we are the more we have in common. The more different we are, the more we can learn from each other. I'm attracted to kindness, warmth, generosity, humor, intelligence and a reasonable dose of sanity. "Pretty" is always a tie-breaker (I'm human and male, after all) but no more than that. Race, creed, color, religion, age and national origin are optional. (Well ... you should have one or more of each ... I just don't care which.) I'm an equal opportunity lover.
And now you know more about me than my brother. Enough!
First Date
Talking is good. Meet me for coffee or drinks after work. If we don't hate each other at first sight, then maybe dinner, preferably at a good, quiet, neighborhood place. I know of a few but I'm easy -- I'll go to your favorite if you have one.
If you're more adventurous, meet me for brunch. I'm a morning person and breakfast in Manhattan can be a hoot. The Boathouse Restaurant in Central park is a personal favorite but I love trying new places too. Then a rowboat on the lake or a walk in the park, or a stroll down Fifth Avenue to MOMA (or better yet, to one of the two MOMA stores on 53rd where you can find the ... oddest ... things for sale.)
And, for those of you who throw all caution to the winds ... well ... we'll have to invent a first date experience together. Remember: I'm easy.
