I was in the Army for 12 years and pretty happily married for 15. From both I have learned and grown well. With the marriage, we were best buds and camped and drove across the country twice. We respected each other and she gave me my space to keep an interest in others and in events foreign and domestic. I in turn kept close to home and made my own routines, which includes making things like furniture and keeping up with my electrical repair talents. I know how to be loving but you have to be fair and consistent with your heart. What matters most is having two ADULTS who are equally interchangeable with responsibility, because if there is a child or children, each one of us must balance him, her, or them, with enough wisdom to be productive, helpful, and engaged, yet smart enough to know what good and bad are. If we save each other money, we can save for better things. If we waste it, forget it.

If you relax and find importance in meeting someone who has worked all of his life at being respected, then there's a foundation of respect. I'm not God, but I'm not a doormat, either. You are responsible in bringing pleasure or pain to every individual you meet. With me, I don't need pain. I think you understand me before you meet me, and that's a good thing. I can't love any woman if she has to consult her network of friends and family before she decides I'm worthy of meeting. This only means surrendering your affections to others who have every intention of ruining your affections. Who needs friends like that?
