 | I moved to San Diego county in October 2008 to start a new life and a new career as a nurse. I found plenty of fish in a Google search looking for internet dating sites. I was a little hesitant to try a "free" service because I've always believed you get what you pay for. But since it was free, I decided it couldn't hurt. I talked to several men online but hadn't met anyone who really caught my interest. Then, I got a message from a man who offered to take me on a 40 mile bike ride. He was convinced that by the end of it, we would either get along famously or hate each other. I didn't reply right away and he sent me another message asking if I was interested, so I called him and we talked for two hours that night. We learned that we had been eating lunch everyday in the same cafeteria, so we decided to make our first date at lunch in the hospital cafeteria. We got along so well, I invited him out with my friends and I for Halloween night. We have been together everyday since. I was convinced before I met my husband that I would spend the rest of my life single. My husband was convinced that a woman like me, would never fall in love with him. We proved each other wrong and I'm so glad we did. |

 | JOIE’S STORY: I had been on just about every paid dating site on the web, but no matter what site it was, I never received one note from anyone, expressing even the slightest bit of interest. I also never received any response back from anyone I had written to, not even a note to say, “thanks, but no thanks.” I had all but given up. I was over a friend’s house one afternoon, and some other friends were there checking out Plentyoffish.com. I made a mental note to check it out, especially being it was free. When I signed up, I really did not have any expectations of meeting anyone, figuring it would be all the same. But, in less than one week of being on the site, she said “Hello” SUSAN’S STORY: She was having no luck with the men she was meeting, and they all seemed to be interested in just one thing. Ready to give up and try a dating service that a friend ran, she was all set to remove her profile from Plentyoffish.com. The appointment with the photographer for the dating service was set but at the last minute, had to be cancelled and rescheduled. So with one last check before deleting her profile, she came across a new profile she had not seen before. Using the instant messenger, she sent a message saying, “Hello” THEIR STORY: I received the IM and sent a few replies, but got nothing in response, so I thought nothing of it and continued my search. Susan never received a response to the IM, so thought he wasn’t interested, confirming her desire to leave the site. The next day, when she signed in to delete her profile, she saw him online again, and decided to send one last IM, just to see if she would get a response and this time, she did. Susan and I talked for hours, first via IM, then eventually on the phone that first night. The connection was instantaneous, for both of us. We had briefly considered meeting during a beach party I was hosting that weekend, but knew it would not be fair to either of us, so we held off on meeting till the beginning of the week. We decided to meet at a diner, near her house and when we first laid eyes on each other, even from a distance, we knew this was meant to be. I immediately gave her a brief kiss and took her hand. Sitting in the diner, we gazed into each other’s eyes for what seemed like forever. After finishing coffee, we took a walk in a nearby park, taking pictures, talking and sharing many kisses throughout the evening. That was one Monday night, back in July 2008, which turns out to have been one of the best days in each of our lives. |
